In July 2006, the Air Force selected Lend Lease as the preferred developer to develop, design, construct, renovate and maintain homes at Holloman Air Force Base in Alamogordo, NM and Davis-Monthan Air Force Base in Tucson, AZ.
Holloman Air Force Base is home to the 49th Fighter Wing and provides support to German Air Force training operations. More than 3,872 USAF active duty and 670 German Air Force military personnel are stationed at Holloman.
Situated on 10,633 acres of Tucson’s Rincon Valley, Davis-Monthan Air Force Base is host to the 12th Air Force headquarters and numerous associated units, and hosts more than 6,500 military personnel, 1,100 civilians, 22 squadrons and 80 aircraft.
In May 2007, the Air Force and Lend Lease closed their lease agreement for over 2600 homes and associated community assets, resulting in the formation of a separate project company, Soaring Heights Communities, to carryout the operational responsibilities of the 50-year project.
The new and renovated homes of SHC represent the finest of Air Force community living. New homes are 20 percent to 40 percent larger than many of the existing homes Air Force families have been living in for decades. Soaring Heights Communities will boast expanses of open space punctuated by community and recreational facilities, and other improvements for its Air Force families.
The communities at Davis-Monthan and Hollomon include pedestrian-friendly neighborhoods, community centers, playgrounds and other amenities. The new homes feature spacious kitchens with islands and state-of-the-art ENERGY STAR appliances, home office space with technology niches, covered porches for integrated indoor/outdoor living and spacious master bedroom suites.
